M.Sc. in Economics

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi launches a two-year full-time programme, Master of Science in Economics. Applications are invited from highly motivated UG students who envisage careers in academia, government, industry, and civil society organizations.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com /B.Stat./B.Math./ B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent)

Minimum qualifications: CGPA of 5.5 for General/OBC/EWS (5.0 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/ PwD) in aggregate without rounding-off (of all the years/semesters of the qualifying degree, taking into account all subjects including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined).

*Candidates in the final year of their qualifying programmes, who expect to complete all their qualifying degree requirements before the third week of July 2020 are eligible to apply for admission. However, their admission would be provisional, subject to their meeting the minimum eligibility criteria after their final qualifying examination results are announced.

Admissions begin in July 2020. All India level entrance examination on 2 May 2020 (The date has been revised from 3rd May to 2nd May due to administrative reasons)

Application process: Eligible candidates can apply for the programme only through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link available at the website https://joaps.iitd.ac.in/hes2020/. The facility for online registration and application will be available from 02 March 2020 (12:00 noon) to 30 March 2020 (04:00 pm). A non-refundable application fee of ₹ 750/- for all female (All Categories)/SC/ST/PwD candidates and ₹ 1500/- for all others candidates apply. The application fees are payable online through the above portal.

Salient features of the programme:

1) A modern economics programme, drawing on the strengths of mathematics, computer science, public policy, management, social sciences, and other science and engineering disciplines.

2) The curriculum has firm foundations in core economic theory.

3) Students choose fields of specialization in core economics and emerging fields in the intersection of economics with other social sciences, as well as with computer science and mathematics.

Programme duration:

The programme will be a two-year full time comprising of four semesters starting in July semester. In summer, students will be encouraged to undertake industry/academic/Govt./NGO internship (non-credit component).

  • Core: 10 courses (3 or 4 credits each), Research seminar (3 credits), 2 Labs (4 credits each), and Project (3+9 credits)
