The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi offers a two-year full-time programme, Master of Science in Economics. Applications are invited from highly motivated UG students who envisage careers in academia, government, industry, and civil society organizations.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com /B.Stat./B.Math./ B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent)

 

Minimum qualifications: CGPA of 5.5 for General/OBC/EWS (5.0 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/ PwD) in aggregate without rounding-off (of all the years/semesters of the qualifying degree, taking into account all subjects including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined).

Application process: Eligible candidates can apply for the programme only through JAM 2021.

Salient features of the programme:

 

1) A modern economics programme, drawing on the strengths of mathematics, computer science, public policy, management, social sciences, and other science and engineering disciplines.
2) The curriculum has firm foundations in core economic theory.
3) Students choose fields of specialization in core economics and emerging fields in the intersection of economics with other social sciences, as well as with computer science and mathematics.
4) Students get hands-on expertise in data analytics.
5) The programme has a strong research component. Two semesters long research project prepares students in identifying research problems, formulating research questions, analysing them, and writing the final dissertation.
6) Trained to carry out evidence based public policy research.
7) The programme inculcates the skill of dealing with emerging issues and encourages students to think out-of-the-box solutions.
8) The curriculum is designed by international experts from diverse fields including industry, academia and public sector.

 

Programme duration:

 

The programme will be a two-year full time comprising of four semesters starting in July semester. In summer, students will be encouraged to undertake industry/academic/Govt./NGO internship (non-credit component).

 

Programme Structure:

  • Two years (4 semesters)
  • Project in the third and final semester
  • Core: 10 courses (3 or 4 credits each), Research seminar (3 credits), 2 Labs (4 credits each), and Project (3+9 credits)
  • Program elective: 3 courses (3 credits each)
  • Open elective: 2 courses (3 credits each)
  • Total credits: 75
