This study of the adverse child sex ratio in India was carried out by a team of five researchers.
It was conceived in response to a request by ActionAid India, and subsequently supported by
the South Asia Office of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada.
The focus of the study is on the socio-cultural contexts and patterns that structure the sex
distribution of children in families in five selected districts of northern India; Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. The present report encapsulates the broad findings of the study.
