Madhulika Bannerjee (Delhi University) will talk on "A Nation and its Development: The excluded knowledge society" on 9th April 3:30-5:00 PM in the department Committee Room (MS-610) at IIT Delhi.

Abstract
For a country like India, Development remains a distant dream for most of its people. The critique that has built up from the 1960s has focused on the exclusion of a large number of people from the benefits of Development, leading up to the current one of this model being unsustainable. This last requires the exploration of alternatives—of production, distribution and consumption, which we argue can be found to a great extent with a conjoining of already existing knowledges and innovative approaches. This presentation will talk about the meaning of this already existing knowledge base and its potential significance for the model of development itself. It will talk about initiatives of different knowledge bases and the potential they have built for more inclusive and sustainable development processes in India.
