I am a Post Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. I hold a PhD in political science from Jamia Millia Islamia. My doctoral thesis explored the politics of religion, public sphere and political mobilisation in Kashmir Valley by taking the case of mosque and shrines. Currently, I am examining the migration of Christian missionaries to Kashmir Valley and the Muslim community's expression of the counter-colonial narrative. In particular, this research delves into the educational efforts of Christian missionaries as they interacted with the Dogras and the Kashmiri people. My second project explores the relationship between sacred space, gender issues, and urban politics within the framework of spatial politics and spatial justice. My main research interests are Religion, Gender, and Spatial Politics, Lived Religion and Postcolonial studies, Public Sphere in non-Western Societies, Political Mobilisation and Conflict, Colonialism, with a focus on Islam and South Asia (in particular Kashmir). My research and writings have appeared in Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), South Asian Review, Contemporary South Asia (CSA), South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies, LSE Engenderings (blog), The Wire, The Telegraph, Greater Kashmir, and other local and national newspapers.
