M.Sc. in Economics

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi offers a two-year full-time programme, Master of Science in Economics. Applications are invited from highly motivated UG students who envisage careers in academia, government, industry, and civil society organizations.

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com /B.Stat./B.Math./ B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent)

 

Minimum qualifications: CGPA of 5.5 for General/OBC/EWS (5.0 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/ PwD) in aggregate without rounding-off (of all the years/semesters of the qualifying degree, taking into account all subjects including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined).

Programme Intake: 25 (reservation as per the Institute norms)

Special provision for 15 additional seats (in addition to the 25 seats through the JAM examination) only for the year 2024-25:
The admission to these additional 15 seats will be through an entrance test to be conducted by the Institute in IIT Delhi. It is open to all eligible candidates as described in the prospectus (https://home.iitd.ac.in/pg-admissions.php ). Students who have taken the JAM exam already, are also welcome to sit for this exam. Reservations for the additional 15 seats will be as per the institute's norm. Please visit https://ecampus.iitd.ac.in/PGADM/login for updates. Applications for all PG programmes (MA/ MSc/ PhD) at IIT Delhi is expected to open on 20 March 2024.

Salient features of the programme:

 

1) A modern economics programme, drawing on the strengths of mathematics, computer science, public policy, management, social sciences, and other science and engineering disciplines.
2) The curriculum has firm foundations in core economic theory.

Programme duration:

 

The programme will be a two-year full time comprising of four semesters starting in July semester. In summer, students will be encouraged to undertake industry/academic/Govt./NGO internship (non-credit component).

  • Core: 10 courses (3 or 4 credits each), Research seminar (3 credits), 2 Labs (4 credits each), and Project (3+9 credits)
