Ms. Vaishali Mutreja, Research Assistant, presented a paper titled, "How does learning of mindfulness (posture and breath focus) alter cognitive task learning?". Vaishali presented work from a two-year long, interdisciplinary research project where cognitive and affective changes taking place in first-time learners of mindfulness were tracked. These results help us understand how the learning of mindfulness practice might translate into cognitive benefits over a period of time. Among the presentations in her session, Vaishali won the Best Paper award.
Ruby Aikat received the Best Paper Award at the National Conference on Recenet Advances in Cognition and Health (NCRACH) 2019. Ms. Ruby Aikat, part-time PhD scholar presented a paper "Is imagery Dependent on sensory feedback? Implications for therapeutic usage of imagery". Ruby’s thesis investigates the role of mental imagery in a movement-restricted sample (spinal cord injured patients). Results from her study show that mental imagery in the spinal cord injured patients might be independent of sensory feedback, and that movement (time) remain unaffected by mental imagery.
Shambhovi Mitra delivered a talk that won the Best Paper award at the National Conference on Recent Advances in Cognition and Health (NCRACH) 2019. Ms. Shambhovi Mitra, a part-time PhD scholar presented a paper titled, "Does autonomic nervous system impairment influence coping in spinal cord injured patients?”. Results from her doctoral work suggests that even at the lowest severity level, specific component of heart rate variability (low frequency) in the spinal cord injured patients predicts subjective response such as acceptance of the injury.
